OUR ISLANDS: St. Kitts and Nevis, like no other islands in the Caribbean, seem to embody a kind of lush tropical paradise usually associated with the South Pacific. Whether you are staying on St. Kitts or staying on Nevis you will experience an atmosphere here that is palpably luxuriant, an intoxicating blend of sunlight, sea air and fantastically abundant vegetation. The two islands are only separated by 2 miles making it easy to experience both islands, as each island provides an assortment of activities and many chances to lime*. At the center of St. Kitts stands the spectacular, cloud-fringed peak of Mount Liamuiga a dormant volcano covered by dense tropical forest. And on Nevis the ground rises upward into a cloud forest filled with elusive green vervet monkeys that are termed as a pest to farmers and local gardens. For ecotourists, or simply anyone who enjoys stunning natural beauty, St. Kitts and Nevis cannot fail to exceed expectations. Located 17 degrees north of the Equator, the average daily temperature is about 84 degrees F, tempered by steady northeasterly breezes, with a sea temperature of approximately 81 degrees F. *Liming: West Indian term for taking it easy, relaxing, and unwinding in a gentle, unhurried way. Other terms may include: "...busting a sweet lime..." or "...having an ire-lime..." and the obvious simple one word answer to questions such as 'where were you?' or 'what are you doing?' "Liming!" says it all. **Nuestra Señora de las Nieves: "Our Lady of The Snows" Chistopher Columbus' name for Nevis because of its first appearance as a snow-capped peak.
